Ill. Senate nixes Free Rides for Seniors revamp

April 22, 2010 (SPRINGFIELD, Ill.) The legislation passed in the Ill. House earlier this year but failed Wednesday in the influential Senate Executive Committee.

The bill would have limited the free rides program to seniors making less than $27,000 a year.

Some say the state can no longer afford to offer free rides because of the budget mess. The program was instituted by former governor Rod Blagojevich.
