Chicago response to census better than expected

Sixty one percent of Chicago households have returned their census forms.

Just over 70 percent of households nationwide have returned their forms. That's just a point below the return rate a decade ago.

The mail return period ended last Friday but more forms are expected to trickle in through this week.

The census estimated a 67-percent return rate through the mail so the response is better than expected.

Anyone who has not mailed in their form can expect a visit from a census worker in May.
