A Chicago deputy commissioner has resigned after getting into an accident in a city-owned vehicle while allegedly driving drunk.

James Lobianco is charged with driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed.

Lobianco is accused of rear-ending a car that was waiting for a red light to change at Broadway and Ainslie on the city's north side.

No one was injured in the incident last thursday.

Lobianco had worked to provide shelter and emergency services for Chicago's homeless.

He is scheduled to appear in court in June.
