The industry will bring more than $15,000 to McCormick Place for its convention from May 3 to May 6.
Representatives for two other big conventions say they will not return to Chicago because it is too expensive.
Daley's proposed solution? McCormick Place becomes only a landlord.
"You're gonna rent the space out. A person comes in, takes the space. He or she--that organization--contracts everything out. The only thing McCormick Place sends is one bill for rent.
The mayor stressed that, unless costs are controlled, the city will keep losing conventions.
