A criminal who triggered a massive police search when he escaped from custody will spend an additional 30 years behind bars.

Last September, 40-year-old Robert Maday stole a weapon from one of two guards who were taking him to court for a sentencing hearing. He was at large for 26 hours before he was recaptured.

On Monday, Maday apologized in court and pleaded guilty. He will serve the additional sentence consecutively with his earlier 13 year sentence for previous crimes.
