Officials in Springfield are still trying to collect thousands of dollars owed by the 2008 campaign of then-senator Barack Obama.

A spokesman for the city says it sent the campaign a bill for $68,000 for expenses from August of 2008 when then Senator Joe Biden was introduced as Mr. Obama's running mate.

The campaign still owes the city $55,000.

The costs are from police and fire protection for the event which was held at the old capitol building.
