49-year-old Roger Sadler died Sunday night at Loyola University Medical Center.
Sadler, who worked for a private contractor, was filling cracks in the roadway near Burns Harbor when he was hit.
Police arrested the driver, 21-year-old Ricardo Bustos, a couple hours later at his home in East Chicago.
Bustos, who remains in police custody this morning, is charged with leaving the scene of the crash and drunk driving. He could face additional charges.
