In the book, Bush writes about a fatal car wreck at the age of 17 when she drove through a stop sign in Midland, Texas, and how it shaped her life. One of her best friends, Mike Douglas, died in the crash.
She also talked about the president's darkest days and how she and her family coped with criticism during their days in the White House.
Former first daughters Jenna and Barbara also appeared on Oprah Tuesday.
