The victims exited the interstate, and their car came to a stop in front of two gas stations on 87th Street.
A man was shot three times and was taken to the hospital in serious to critical condition. A woman in the car was shot in the hand.
The other car involved in the shooting fled the scene and has not yet been located.
There was no word Friday evening on a motive, but police say they do not think it was a case of road rage.
