Man accused of murder admits guilt in court

A man who said he was beaten into confessing to a pair of killings admitted Monday that he did, indeed, commit one of those murders. Cortez Brown had claimed he was innocent in both crimes.

Brown said he only confessed originally after detectives under Commander Jon Burge beat him with their fists and flashlights. Brown has spent 20 years in prison.

Under a new plea agreement, he will be sentenced to time served and may soon be released.

Prosecutors dropped murder charges against Brown in a second case.
