More booze on the beach?

A Chicago City Council committee has approved a plan to more than double the number of lakefront locations where liquor can be sold.

Mayor Daley had proposed the plan for park district lakefront property.

There are currently 12 such locations and if the full council approves, then there will be 26.

The idea is to provide money for park district programs without raising taxes.

The park district says the facilities will be mid-to-upscale restaurants where drinking

would only be allowed on the premises.
