Chicago public school students learning about the importance of taking part in democracy got a visit from a special guest today.

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin spoke to more than 100 children attending the second annual "Our American Voice" summit.

The summit is being held at U.S. Cellular Field.

The event is a high point of a 22-week after-school program that promotes citizenship.

Program organizers say students have been developing ideas to help solve problems in their own communities.
