Dads can also suffer from postpartum blues

However, a new study finds that about one in every ten new dads can also suffer from postpartum depression.

It happens most often in men in the first three to six months after the baby is born.

Scientists reporting in Wednesday's issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association say depression in expecting or new dads represents a significant pubic health concern.

They say more efforts should be made to spot the disorder in new dads.

The scientists add that previous studies have shown dads' depression may have substantial emotional, behavioral and developmental effects on children.
