63rd Beach dyed red for scientific study

Portions of Lake Michigan had a bright red and orange tint because of some testing to see how the lake's water moves along the shore.

The park district and U.S. Geological Survey are doing the work at 63rd Street Beach. They say the dye they put in the water is harmless and it should fade in a couple of days.

The beach is not open yet for swimming this season.
