Ford's Mercury line could bite the dust

Another familiar car nameplate could soon be gone after more than 70 years on the market.

Bloomberg is reporting that Ford plans to eliminate the Mercury line.

Sales have dropped 74 percent since 2000.

Edsel Ford created Mercury in 1939 as a mid-priced alternative to Ford and Lincoln.

If Mercury is eliminated it would join Pontiac, Saturn, Oldsmobile and Plymouth as US brands that no longer exist.
