A woman was due in court Sunday charged in connection with an animal abuse case on the city's South Side.

Members of the Chicago Police Department's Animal Crimes Team arrested Carla Smith. She is facing several charges including aggravated cruelty to animals.

Last week residents noticed an odor coming from a home in the 8200-block of South Rhodes. Police discovered four dogs, apparently suffering from dehydration and malnutrition. They also discovered the remains of three additional dogs.
