Jack Darin, director of the Sierra Club Illinois, says as a Senate candidate Kirk opposes clean energy legislation and limits on global warming, and is too close to big oil.
"He's voted time and again with BP and other big oil companies to extend taxpayer subsidies to them, and other benefits. He's against legislation that would move to a clean energy future. Alexi Giannoulias is a guy who as out state treasurer has started new environmental programs in that office," said Darin.
Kirk's office told ABC7 that he is one of the greenest Republicans in Congress, and is a leader on environmental issues. He was endorsed today by republicans for environmental protection.
