Boy, 3, killed in Prospect Heights fire

June 12, 2010 (PROSPECT HEIGHTS, Ill.) The fire started at 202 Maple Lane in Prospect Heights at 3:25 a.m. Saturday, according to Prospect Heights Fire Capt. Mark Oeltgen, citing preliminary information.

Firefighters arriving on the scene found a father holding a young child outside the home. The father reportedly indicated that a second child was trapped inside. Firefighters pulled that child from the burning home.

All three were transported to area hospitals, but one child-- identified as 3-year-old Alex Jedd, was pronounced dead at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights at 4:12 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The fire was in an area without hydrants. Water had be brought to the scene. Seven fire departments reportedly responded to the fire.
