CHA is making educational information available at the offices of elected officials, community groups, churches, government sites, and social service agencies. The education campaign will emphasize the four-week registration window, the three styles of housing, the ease with which to register online, and the lottery that will randomly select 40,000 names.
Online registration will be made easy through the CHA Wait List website, www.CHAwaitlist.org
Those chosen will be eligible for public housing units in rehabilitated CHA family, scattered site or new mixed income housing as units become available. It does not matter when during the four-week registration period an individual submits an application. It is not first come, first served, and all applications will be treated equally in the Lottery.
Online registration is the quickest, most efficient method of applying for the Wait List during the registration period (June 14-July 9, 2010). Those without Internet access may go to one of more than 100 registration sites throughout the City where computers and technical assistance will be made available to them.

"While the opening of the Family Housing Wait List is an important moment in the history of Chicago and CHA, it also a time of reflection - to recognize the effect of positive change since the last Wait List opened more than 10 years ago," CHA CEO Lewis A. Jordan said. "Our entire housing portfolio has either undergone - or is undergoing - major quality renovations, or is newly built, and we have introduced a multitude of resources to assist all CHA families become self sufficient."
