June 15, 2010 Taste of Chicago, which was first launched in 1980 as a one-day event, has grown into one of the nation's most popular epicurean celebrations.

This year 53 restaurants, more than 300 menu items and 11 new restaurants will be showcased at Taste of Chicago. New restaurants include: Abundance Bakery, Bobak Sausage Company, Carbon, Churro Factory, Cubby Bear, Dorreen's Pizza, lyanze, Pegasus, Shokolad Pastry and Café, Summer Rice and Noodle and Timothy O'Toole's Pub. In addition to regular-priced offerings, restaurants will feature two "Taste Of" portions at $2 or less. This year, 108 "Taste Of" selections will be showcased. For attendees who might have missed them last year, 2009's new restaurants to Taste of Chicago will be returning this year: Garrett Popcorn Shops and Manny's Cafeteria & Delicatessen.

The popular Chef's Table will be featured again this year and will offer a selection of sweet creations which are personally selected by TV personality and ABC Channel 7's "Hungry Hound", Steve Dolinsky. Chef's Table restaurants will partner with Washburne Culinary Institute students to create Steve Dolinsky's favorite sweets in the city. The restaurants and bakeries featured at this year's Chef's Table include: Bittersweet, Floriole Café and Bakery, The Goddess & Grocer, Ina's, Kristoffer's Café and Bakery, Lovely: A Bake Shop, Petterino's, Thai Pastry and Vinci.

"Taste of Chicago celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this year," says Sheila O'Grady, president of the Illinois Restaurant Association, "and the festival continues to attract millions of Illinois residents and tourists every year. We commend the City of Chicago and Mayor Richard M. Daley for their ongoing commitment to represent the city's cultures and their diverse cuisine."

Taste of Chicago will be held in Grant Park, June 25 - July 4, 2010. This year's event will feature 53 daily vendors as well as nine restaurants participating in The Chef's Table, located at Buckingham Fountain. Admission to Taste of Chicago is free. Tickets for food and beverages can be purchased in strips of 12 tickets for $8.

The Illinois Restaurant Association manages the food and beverage portion of the Taste of Chicago for the Mayor's Office of Special Events. In preparation for this annual celebration, America's premier food and music festival, the Illinois Restaurant Association begins working months in advance starting with a review of all applications, vendor training and on-site management.
