Village authorities talked about the milestone Tuesday.
Back in 2003 there were 20 murders in Maywood. That number plummeted after the village launched several anti-violence initiatives which included putting more officers on the street.
"I believe what happened here is nothing short of a miracle... without a homicide," said Chief Tim Curry, Maywood Police Department.The village also credits more teamwork with state police and the anti-violence group CeaseFire.
