Dump the Pump Day

June 17, 2010 (CHICAGO) On Thursday, the RTA hopes you'll take the train- or bus- as part of Dump the Pump Day, a national push that encourages people to find alternatives to driving their cars, such as:
  • taking public transit;
  • riding a bike;
  • carpooling with coworkers;
  • or walking.

    The Regional Transportation Authority, Chicago Transit Authority, Metra and PACE are all participating in the fifth annual Dump the Pump Day. Participants who pledge not to drive on June 17 can register to win several prizes, including transit passes, at drivelesslivemore.com.

    "When a rider takes public transportation and leaves their car at home, they are contributing to the reduction of pollutants in the air, reducing highway congestion, saving money and showing their commitment to the sustainability of our environment," said RTA Executive Director Steve Schlickman in a release.
