Crane collapse kills worker at train wreck site

June 17, 2010 (PORTER COUNTY, Ind.)

The freight train was heading to Chicago from Cleveland Wednesday night when it jumped the tracks in an area around Valparaiso, Indiana, near Highway 6 and Old Summon Road.

Thursday's accident happened midday as workers were moving the rail cars.

Authorities say 43-year-old worker Michael Bowling from Dyer was directing the cleanup when one of the cranes became unstable and fell on top of him.

No other injuries were reported.

The massive cleanup effort is expected to take a few days to clear the scene.

No one was hurt in Wednesday's train derailment.
