A lawyer who grew up on the South Side of Chicago has been granted bail by a judge in Rwanda.

Peter Erlinder is accused of distorting the country's past history of genocide, which is a crime in Rwanda.

A judge granted Erlinder bail on medical grounds.

It's not clear if he will be allowed to leave Rwanda.

Erlinder is a professor at William Mitchell College of Law in Minnesota.

He was in Rwanda to help with the legal defense of an opposition leader.
