McCormick Place brings in new shows

June 19, 2010 (CHICAGO) The Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau says the events could pump more than $82 million into the local economy.

The new conventions include the Lego Kidsfest, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees annual meeting, and the ACE hardware convention.

Mayor Daley expressed his relief Saturday over the new bookings.

"Yesterday, they had a great celebration renewing old shows and new shows because this will mean so many jobs," Daley said.

Five shows that have been held at McCormick Place in the past will also be returning.

Recently, legislation was approved that is designed to lower costs for groups holding shows at McCormick Place.

Some conventions threatened to leave the city, saying holding their shows at McCormick Place was getting to expensive.
