There was a celebration in Skokie Monday as construction began on a long-awaited CTA Yellow Line station.

They used a historic train whistle to announce work on the $20 million facility at Oakton Street and Skokie Boulevard.

The new station is adjacent to the Illinois Science and Technology Park.

Authorities estimate about 1,200 boardings will occur at the stop each day.

Construction is expected to be complete in fall 2011.
