Chicago students' ISAT scores up 2 percent

June 23, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Preliminary data released Wednesday shows that Illinois Standards Achievement Test scores are up almost 2 percent.

That gain was announced Wednesday at Burr Elementary School in the city's Bucktown neighborhood.

CPS leaders explain that science scores rose the most sharply year-over-year and that reading showed the slightest improvement.

Overall, Mayor Daley says, this is positive news for Chicago Public Schools.

Officials noted that the number of children exceeding state standards on tests rose year-over-year as well.
