Islamic group holds annual convention

The gathering gives Muslims a chance to pray together. In addition, participants are discussing their role in society, politics and education. The theme is "Nurturing Compassionate Communities: Connecting Faith and Service".

The president of the organization is emphasizing the importance of taking care of each other.

"There is a compassionate and productive way to have a broad sense of community that will make this nation and the world a better place for all of us," said Dr. Ingrid Mattson, Islamic Society of North America President

Among the many goals of the convention is strengthening partnerships with people of all faiths.

This year's meeting is the 47th annual Islamic Society of North America conference.
