"The gun law says you can have a gun in the house but it must be kept in the house. I would warn you that most of these killings are not shooting robbers, they're shooting each other in acts of passion," Jackson said.
Jackson made his comments at Rainbow-PUSH headquarters.
Friday, the Chicago City Council unanimously passed the new ordinance. Among other regulations, it requires gun buyers to undergo training, purchase a permit, and register no more than one gun per month.
The council took the action after the Supreme Court ruled Chicago's earlier handgun ban was unconstitutional.
