Teachers union endorses Quinn

After rejecting Democratic Governor Pat Quinn in the primary, the Illinois Education Association is endorsing him over his Republican rival. The 133,000-member IEA, one of the two major, politically active teachers unions in the state, picked Quinn because of his efforts to fix the state's finances. During the Democratic gubernatorial primary, the union supported Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes.

Republican Bill Brady's chance of winning the endorsement was slim because of his opposition to tax increases and his plan to cut spending and dismantle the state's education bureaucracy.
