Construction strike negotiations to resume Friday

Both sides will return to the bargaining table Friday in a strike that has halted work on major road construction projects in the Chicago area. Union laborers and operating engineers walked off the job last week, shutting down hundreds of job sites.

The talks ended Wednesday night in Des Plaines. They focused on health insurance and wages.

Some school districts fear if the strike continues construction will not be completed in time for the start of the school year.

Representatives for both the Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 and the Laborers District Council of Chicago met with the Mid-America Regional Bargaining Association for the first time in more than a week Wednesday.
