Illinois veterans will now get free mental health coverage for services that are not covered by their insurance plans.

Governor Pat Quinn signed a bill into law Thursday expanding coverage for vets.

It takes effect immediately.

Service members who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan who have been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress disorder are eligible for mental health services through the state and federal governments.
