Program to study sharing doctors' notes

July 20, 2010

Some 25,000 patients may soon find out as part of a pilot program designed to improve patient-doctor communication.

The "Open Notes" initiative will also involve 100 primary care doctors in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Washington state.

The project coincides with a nationwide push for electronic medical records, not to mention the move toward the internet as a preferred source of communication.

A description of the project is in the journal "Annals of Internal Medicine".
