The company does not need approval from the aldermen to build the store, but Mayor Daley asked council members for their support on the plans.
The Wal-Mart would be located at 83rd and Stewart.
Meanwhile, the city's first Wal-Mart on the city's West Side held a job fair Friday.
That store is undergoing a remodeling right now in preparation for its new 24-hour operation scheduled to begin in September.
The full city council will vote on the plans for the third Wal-Mart sometime next week.
