OEMC looks at fed money after storm damage

July 27, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Chicago has made the form available online at cityofchicago.org and at aldermanic offices and is encouraging residents to fill them out in the next two weeks. They will then compile the information and see about asking for federal help. Officials said they have 30 days to make their case for federal disaster assistance.

Jose Santiago, the executive director of OEMC, would not say if he thinks the city will be eligible for federal help.

Many people- both in the city and suburbs- are still cleaning up flooded homes. Cicero, where 5,000 homes and 100 businesses were damaged, is also eyeing federal help.
