Hotel workers give union power to strike

July 29, 2010 (CHICAGO)

It does not mean they will go out on strike. But the vote gives the union's negotiating committee the power to call a strike if they decide it's necessary.

The union says 92 percent of workers supported the strike authorization. The union accuses the company of using the recession as an excuse to cut staff and hours.

Hyatt counters that the concessions it's looking for are fair because the hotel industry is suffering in the bad economy.
