Study: Blood flood linked to brain aging

August 2, 2010 Researchers at the Boston University School of Medicine studied the cardiac index, which measures the amount of blood pumped by the heart in relation to a person's size. Study participants with the lowest cardiac index had brains that appeared to be almost two years older than those with the highest cardiac index.

Even when researchers discounted people with cardiovascular disease, the data still shows those people with a lower cardiac index had greater brain aging.

One of the best ways to improve the heart's blood flow is regular exercise.
