Love Your Jeans: Finding the best fit

August 9, 2010 (CHICAGO) Erica Strama from the Shops at North Bridge visits ABC7 to show how to narrow the jean field with quick and easy tips to accentuate your best assets, no matter your body type.

When you shop for new jeans, you can help out someone else by donating your old jeans. Erica says. Now through August 31, donate gently used or new denim at The Shops at North Bridge "Great Denim Days" display on Level 1. In return, you will receive special offers and exclusive discounts from The Shops at North Bridge retailers (while supplies last).

Your denim will be donated to Deborah's Place, a local organization which "breaks the cycle of homelessness for women in Chicago." For more information on Deborah's Place, please visit their website at

No matter what your desired look this fall, denim comes in every shape and style you can imagine. Click here for The Shops at North Bridge Denim Trend Report and Fit Guide. It's packed with perfect fit facts and the latest trends for the season.

Body Type: Triangle
If you're a triangle (traditionally known as the pear), you have narrow shoulders, a trim torso and your waist is smaller than your hips. Look for styles that cater to women with curves to prevent the telltale "gap" in the back. Also, make sure you choose a dark rinse and avoid any embellishments on the back pockets.

Store: Nordstrom
CJ by Cookie Johnson "Praise" relaxed jeans - $163
Trina Turk white button-down blouse - $198
Seventy-two Changes Menswear inspired blazer with detachable vest - $368
Dolce and Gabbana leopard print pumps - $695

Body Type: Inverted Triangle
If you're an inverted triangle (traditionally know as the apple), you have broader shoulders, ample bust and a larger waist with narrow hips and slimmer legs. Look for styles like a boot-cut or flare to balance out a heavier top. You can also wear a skinny jean to show off those fabulous legs -- just be sure to pair with a substantial shoe to keep everything in proportion. Avoid pleating at all costs

Store: XXI Forever and Nordstrom
Skinny jeans - $11.50 (Faith 21 line in extended sizes up to a 3x)
Elie Tahari mauve jacket - $498
Black turtleneck - $78
Paisley scarf - $58
Franco Sarto boots - $118

Body Type: Hourglass
If you're an hourglass, you have well proportioned shoulders that are in line with your hips. Look for styles with a bit of stretch to give your curves some freedom. Avoid lighter washes that accentuate the hips and butt.

Store: LOFT
Curvy boot-cut denim - $59.50
Military-inspired jacket - $79.50
White ruffled button-down blouse - $44.50
Black peep toe booties - $118
Black leather belt - $39.50
Animal print clutch - $16.50
Printed floral scarf - $39.50

Body Type: Ruler
If you're a ruler, your goal is to create the illusion of curves. Luckily, this means you can wear practically any style! The jegging (a jean legging) is the latest trend in denim and you can pick a lighter wash to add some dimension to your legs.

Store: Armani Exchange and Stuart Weitzman
Denim jegging - $98
Faux fur vest (reversible) - $88
Embellished t-shirt - $38
Long-sleeved burnout t-shirt - $32
Chain earrings - $28
Metallic handbag - $98
Stuart Weitzman booties - $435

Body Type: Petite
If you're 5'3" or under, you're considered petite. Look for styles that elongate the leg and pair with a great heel. Also be sure to look for a style with a shorter rise to prevent bunching in the front. The ankle zipper has returned this season and is great at adding the illusion of length. Avoid the popular boyfriend jean -- it will cut your leg off in the wrong place and make you look shorter than you are.

Store: White House I Black Market
Black denim with zipper detail - $88
Black lace blouse - $48
Cream cardigan with flower detail - $88
Black and cream oxford heels - $98
Bracelets - $44 each
Earrings - $24
