Daley pays tribute to Navy

August 10, 2010 (CHICAGO)

During a Daley Plaza ceremony, a Navy admiral swore a Chicago-area doctor, Sean Bryant, as a lieutenant commander. Commander Bryant's 10-year-old triplets put the rank on his father's uniform.

The mayor praised Navy members.

"I can think of no greater gift to our country than putting one's life on the line in the defense of freedom and democracy. These young men and women sail, serve in far away countries away from their families and friends, to protect our nation. So it's fitting that we recognize and honor their great service," said Mayor Daley.

"The city and the people of Chicago have always supported their Navy. We thank you for your support. It makes a difference," said Vice Adm. Peter Daly, deputy fleet forces commander.

Chicago's tribute to the Navy continues through Sunday.
