Daley: Rule change good for convention business

August 12, 2010 (CHICAGO)

The mayor says the changes have had a profound effect and make the convention industry as competitive as ever.

The International Manufacturing Technology show will be held in Chicago next month. And now it's committed to return in 2012, 2014 and 2016.

"We have to stimulate the economy, and with shows like this really bringing in the jobs, revenue helps many people in the convention industry, cabs, limos to restaurants," said Mayor Daley.

The mayor talked as McCormick Place was hosting the Orgill Fall Dealer Market. It draws about 18,000 people who spend as estimated $24 million in the city.
