Christopher Boyd, 23, was on his third tour in the country as a member of a Special Forces team.
Boyd's parents, who live in Palatine, are headed to Dover to claim their son's body. They were informed about the death by two Marines at their home Thursday.
Boyd attended Palatine High School before joining the Marines.
He leaves behind a wife and twin 2-year-old boys. They live in California.
