Charges are expected to be filed against two men accused of growing an illegal marijuana field in a forest preserve area in south suburban Palos Township.

The site contains an estimated 2,000 mature cannabis plants.

Cook County Forest Preserve Police had been monitoring the field for the past several months.

The men were arrested Friday. Officers also recovered a .22-caliber shotgun and found an encampment site where the growers were living.

The field will be eradicated.
