Flood victims urged to apply for help

August 20, 2010

City and federal officials held a briefing Friday, 24 hours after the president signed off on federal disaster aid.

The head of the city's department of business affairs and consumer protection warns that FEMA won't just show up at your home, and she says reputable repair contractors won't either.

"Don't hire people who come to your door to do repair work - reputable home repair contractors do not do business this way, remember if they come knocking, send them walkin'," said Commissioner Norma Reyes of the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection.
