A south suburban family is in mourning for a second time after the military confirmed their son died from injuries he received in Afghanistan.

Relatives say the wife of Sergeant First Class Edgar Roberts told them earlier this month that he had died. Family members later contacted the national Naval medical center in Maryland and learned he was still alive. But on August 17, Roberts died.

He was a 1988 graduate of Thornton High School in south suburban Harvey.
