Mayor Richard Daley visited construction crews at the site at Morgan and Lake. The station will serve the Green and Pink lines starting in 2012.
The CTA may also get a fare system that lets customers pay with their cell phones.
The Chicago-Sun Times says riders would get a special computer chip installed in their smart phones. Passengers would then tap their phones on a touch pad, just as they do now with fare cards.
