Union pushes for national law banning credit checks

Chicago workers launched a national campaign to ban credit checks in hiring. Illinois has already passed a state law that prevents employers from using credit history to discriminate against a job applicant or employee.

Members of the labor union Unite Here say there should be a federal law, too. They say credit screening puts job seekers in a catch 22 where they can't pay their bills because they don't have a job and they can't get a job because they can't pay their bills.
