The star belongs to Sergeant Alan Haymaker, and it was retired Tuesday during a ceremony at police headquarters at 35th and Michigan.
Sergeant Haymaker died in a crash last February while responding to a burglary.
Fellow officers, as well as family members, friends and other supporters attended the ceremony.
Haymaker wore Star Number 2532.
This is the 100th anniversary of the Superintendent's Honored Star Case.
