Chicago firm files suit against Iowa egg farms

September 15, 2010 (CHICAGO)

The law group accuses Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms of numerous safety violations. The lawsuit seeks compensation on behalf of consumers who died or were injured from salmonella contaminated eggs.

Six people are part of the suit, but the law firm expects that could grow to more 76,000 people.

"The class members include every purchaser and consumer of eggs from both farms from April of this year to August. The class seeks reimbursement for everyone who purchased these eggs," said Kenneth Moll, The Law Group, Ltd.

ABC 7 has not been able to get a comment from Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms about the lawsuit.

A new congressional report indicates inspectors found traces of salmonella hundreds of times in the past two years at Wright County Egg facilities. The company says it continues to cooperate with investigators. Its owner has been called to testify before a House panel next Tuesday on the egg recall.
