Metra wants to know whether riders would appreciate quiet cars in which cell phones and other annoying electronic devices would be off limits. The October issue of Metra's "On the Bi-level" newsletter is asking for riders input. The commuter rail service is asking riders to "be thoughtful" and tell it whether they think it will actually work and what cars should be considered.

Metra is also asking how keeping the peace on the so-called quiet cars should be enforced.

A commuter train service in New Jersey recently put quiet cars into service and says, so far, it has been a big success.
