Yoga shows promise relieving fibromyalgia pain

October 15, 2010

Patients with fibromyalgia report pain across the bodies along with fatigue.

Treatments can include drugs, exercise and counseling. But they are often hit or miss.

Now a study finds promise in yoga.

Researchers at Oregon Health and Science University had 25 women go through a yoga program including light stretching, meditation and breathing exercises. They also took part in yoga based advice and group discussions.

It should be noted that some of the women continued taking pain medication during the study. And, after eight weeks, the women reported less pain and fatigue along with better moods.
